National Program of Cancer Registries Education and Training Series
CDC's National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) Education and Training Series (NETS) is a series of educational modules intended to be used by state trainers to educate central cancer registry staff and reporters. NETS consists of 11 modules; NPCR has published the first five online. The remaining six will be published online as they become available.
The five available modules are:
-
Building a Quality Presentation
This three-part module is designed for education coordinators within the central registries and helps trainers identify what training is needed, improve training methods, build presentations using Microsoft® PowerPoint 2003, and develop exercises. -
Abstracting for the Beginner
This three-part module for beginning reporters explains why cancer data is collected, how information flows from the facility level to the national level, and how to maintain the confidentiality of health data, perform casefinding, and complete the electronic cancer reporting form. -
Quality Control for Central Registries
This module has nine parts: five that provide an overview of total quality management and continuous quality improvement, and four separate stand-alone parts for audits, reliability studies, and data quality management reports. -
Validating Data with Text
This module provides instructions for reporters on the importance of text to validate coded data, how to record text, and what text to include. The exercises help students determine necessary text. -
Head and Neck Malignancies
The head and neck cancer advanced abstracting module consists of three parts: Overview (incidence and multiple primary rules), Putting the Pieces Together, and Treatment and Survival.
Self-Study Modules for Primary Care Clinicians
Follow-up of Abnormal Findings of the Breast: Five Self-Study Modules for Primary Care Clinicians
CDC has teamed with Medscape™ from WebMD™ to develop an online continuing education program called Follow Up of Abnormal Clinical and Imaging Findings of the Breast: Five Self-Study Modules for Primary Care Clinicians. The five self-directed, interactive training modules are designed to educate clinicians on providing appropriate and timely care to women with early signs of breast cancer, and to train clinicians on the latest evidence, protocols and guidelines around detecting breast cancer. These modules are endorsed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and acknowledged by the Food and Drug Administration. Each module features a topic review, self-assessment questions, slides, graphics, photographs, interactive features, and CME/CE test questions. The five modules cover these topics:
- Module I: Breast Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology
- Module II: Health History and Clinical Breast Examination
- Module III: Work-up Abnormal Clinical Findings
- Module IV: Follow-up Abnormal Imaging Findings - Biopsy Methods
- Module V: Risk Management
The modules are posted on the Medscape™ website, http://www.medscape.com/editorial/public/breastcancer-cdc. CME credits are not available.
